2011 President's Message
I am absolutely thrilled that you are visiting the website of the Junior League of Saginaw Valley and welcome you to become more acquainted with our organization and our projects, past and present.  For almost 80 years, the Junior League of Saginaw Valley has worked to improve our community and help those most in need through its membership of trained volunteers.  During its rich history the JLSV has created, through funding and volunteer efforts, many agencies including the following:  Saginaw Community Foundation, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), First Ward Community Center; and has helped establish a multitude of programs by collaborating with community partners such as the Saginaw Art Museum, Creative 360 (Midland), and the Saginaw Public Schools.

Today, we are furthering our mission of promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through the effective action of trained volunteers through our current projects.  For the next two years, we are working closely with the Children’s Zoo at Celebration Square to design and build an outdoor educational Playscape with the goal of promoting healthy outdoor activities for children.  This project directly relates to our current focus area, Health and Wellness of Children and Families.

In addition, the Junior League of Saginaw Valley will, for the second year in a row, be conducting a community-wide diaper drive.  We are aware of the large need for disposable diapers in the region, as well as the stress and health implications when needs are not met.  Last year we collected close to 30,000 diapers to distribute to those in need throughout the Great Lakes Bay Region!  Please check back on the website for forthcoming information.

We cannot do all of this work without the support of the community.  Our major fundraiser, the Festival of Trees held each November at Apple Mountain, showcases the talent of local designers as they decorate holiday trees and wreaths.  These beautiful holiday treasures, plus other valuable items, are raffled at the end of the weekend.  Our other major fundraiser is the beautiful cookbook Between the Lakes. This award-winning cookbook features delicious dishes from members’ most beloved recipes.

In accordance with our mission of developing the potential of women, we provide training and educational opportunities to all members so that they are equipped with the skills necessary to conduct our projects and fundraisers and to make as much of a positive impact on our community as possible.  I encourage you to join this dynamic organization of women motivated to create lasting positive change.  We look forward to welcoming you to the League!

Warm regards,
